3, 2002 Meeting Minutes
Report of Officers
- Don Corbett – President
- Bill Provost – Vice-President
- John Digenan – Treasurer
- Brett Waldbaum – Secretary
- Scott Manson – Director At-Large
Old Business
- Director At-Large Open Position Filled
– Don
- Welcomed
new board member, Scott Manson
- City of Sammamish 244th Corridor Study – Scott
- Major
discussion before the meeting; Scott reported that 2 of the 7 potential
routes in the south part of the project have been removed from
consideration. The north part of
the project will likely pass and begin construction in 2005, but the
south part of the project is low on the City’s priority list. The City is still investigating which
route is best and may present the proposal to the city council in the
future. Visit the City’s web site for more information.
New Business
- Mail Theft – Don/John
- The
HOA is receiving increased reports of mail theft from homeowners. Please spread the word to your
neighbors to not leave outgoing or incoming mail in the mailbox overnight
and to be on the watch for any suspicious activity. It is a city-wide problem, and everyone
needs to do their best to stay on alert.
Outgoing mail can be desposited in blue mail receptacles (often
found near banks or shopping areas).
- Capital Project Investigation –
Don/Bill
- Locked Mailboxes
- Due
to the high cost, nuisance of dealing with keys, and possible
ineffectiveness, the board is not considering converting the
neighborhood’s mail kiosks into locked mailboxes at this time. If mail theft continues to become an
increased problem and more homeowners voice their preference to install
locked mailboxes the board may consider it again in the future.
- Improve Landscaping on West Side of 242nd Parks/Trail
- The
HOA has replaced our landscaping contractors, Eathrworks, with Greenbelt
Landscaping.
- Attendees
at the meeting approved of the idea of the board investigating costs
associated with improving the landscaping on the west side of the 242nd
parks and trail. We would like to
either add sprinklers/grass, or if it is technically or cost-prohibitive
then another attractive landscaping alternative.
- There
was a request to post the fertilization spray schedule on the web site;
the board will contact Greenbelt
to get the schedule and post it
- In
addition to these two capital projects, the board needs to hire someone
to study long-term capital projects so we can reserve enough money and
plan for the future.
- Children Playing in the Street Safety
Concerns – Don
- There
have been many reports about children not playing safely in the streets
or watching for cars, toys being left in the streets and cul-de-sacs, and
cars and delivery trucks driving too fast.
- The
HOA board has little power in this matter, except to request that the
Sammamish police patrol the streets more frequently and watch for these
incidents
- The
suggestion was made to add speed bumps; the board has already considered
this option and the majority response from the neighborhood is against
it.
- Another
suggestion was to add stop signs, especially at intersections near the
parks, as there have been reports of drivers not yielding or even looking
the other way when approaching these intersections. The board will inquire about this, and
if anyone would like to help please contact the HOA.
- Open Positions for Environment &
Safety Committee Chair – Brett
- If
you or any of your neighbors are interested in tackling any of the safety
issues discussed so far, there is an open Safety Committee chair
position.
- Front
yard landscaping is looking good so far this year, but it’s still the
spring time. If anyone is
interested in joining or leading the Environment Committee to help
educate homeowners about lawn and front yard maintenance and landscaping
please contact the HOA.
- Elections in August – Brett
- The
board is taking nominations for the upcoming elections in August. If you or anyone you know has the time
and interest to be the next Vice President or Secretary please send in
your nominations. Bill, John, and
Scott will stay on the board to complete the second year of their
terms. More details on the
election process will be posted to the web site as August approaches.
Committee Reports
- Architecture Control Committee (ACC) –
Scott Steciw
- The
ACC plans to generate a list of standards for air conditioners, paint
colors, and other architecture-related items that will affect our
neighborhood in the future. These
standards will be published and possibly added to the bylaws. If you are interested in helping Scott
and the ACC in this effort please e-mail acc@rridge.org
.
- Bylaws Committee – Gorman Colling
- It
is a difficult challenge to bring the CC&Rs and Bylaws into the
“modern age” from the time when they were written to reflect current
reality.
- City Liaison – Elisa Watkins
- As
discussed above, mail theft and the 244th corridor study
- Finance Committee – John Digenan
- The
board is busy contacting homeowners about overdue payments; liens will be
placed on homes that have overdue outstanding balances; the HOA needs to
collect this money to maintain cash flow and pay our bills!
- Expect
another special assessment this summer, but this year it should appear
along with the July dues bill so homeowners can write one check
- Garden Club – Juana Jacomet – not
able to attend
- Social Committee – Sherrie Newman
& Barb Walzer
- Egg-cellent
turn out for the Egg Hunt in April
- More
great events are planned for this year!
- A
welcome sub-committee is being developed for new neighbors
- Web Committee – Brett
Waldbaum
- Over
180 out of 300 homes have been e-mailed their web site passwords. Please pass the word on to your
neighbors to contact the HOA if they would like to access the
neighborhood directory
